10 Signs You May Need a Physical Therapy Tune Up

As the kids go back to school, and our regular yearly lives take place again, it’s easy to overlook the little aches and pains that may creep in amongst the chaos. It’s no surprise that we’re the busiest in the winter months- and this is mostly from people neglecting to address these aches and pains as they develop into more serious symptoms. Below are 10 signs that your little aches or pains may be developing into something bigger, and that a preventative course of Physical Therapy may be the best course of action for you to save your time, money, and winter holiday season!
1. You are starting to occasionally have a familiar ache or pain. One that you beat before (and will again) more quickly if you address it before it becomes a bigger issue.
2. You are taking advantage of the late summer weather and increasing your activity level. You now find you have some muscle soreness, but it’s not in your glutes, it’s in your hamstrings, quads, or lower back.
3. You’re waking up in the morning and you are stiff in your joints or have muscle soreness. It may not be that you need a new mattress.
4. You’re noticing that you’re having more and more difficulty reaching into your cabinets as easily as you used to.
5. Turning your neck or trunk is becoming more difficult while driving, causing you to only rely on your mirrors when reversing or switching lanes (if you don’t look over your shoulder during a driving exam, while switching lanes, you’d fail the test).
6. You’re sitting out of activities with friends or family. You find yourself not participating in the activities you love because you’re worried about injuring yourself further.
7. You think twice about picking something up off the floor because you’re afraid it is too heavy, or that you might “tweak” your back while lifting or moving with it.
8. You started using the opposite arm again to open doors or get something out of the fridge because you are avoiding the “twinge” in your shoulder.
9. You want to get back into your old exercise routine, but you aren’t sure if you are doing it correctly or safely.
10. You simply aren’t doing the things you love again.
What to do next
Obviously, you know what we will say- get a physical therapy evaluation.

But, if you're not sure if you truly need a full course of physical therapy, feel free to book a discovery visit with one of our therapists! In this visit, you can discuss your specific pain with an expert, and learn how our team would approach helping you overcome it!
