Are you worried your knee pain may get in the way of your busy festive plans?

We know the holiday season is a very busy time for some. Whether you’re visiting relatives, playing with the grandchildren, or putting decorations up- there’s always something exciting happening.

If knee pain is a worry for you right now, we have some simple solutions to eliminate knee pain and discomfort so you can enjoy the holiday season with little to know pain.

Three Easy Tips You Can Use Over the Holidays To Ease Knee Pain.

Having knee pain is common and something we regularly see at Doylestown Sports Medicine Center. There are many possible reasons for your knee pain from a pulled muscle to arthritis.  And if you have not, you should schedule with us to get to the root cause of your knee pain.  Until then let’s help you get through the holiday season with three simple tips…

Standing to Cook That Delicious Holiday Meal

Picture
Standing can put a lot of low load stress on your knees, if you are doing it wrong.  Your quadriceps are muscles on the front of your thighs that connect to you knee cap before attaching below.  They are one of three muscle groups that work to hold us up against gravity, i.e., stand.  If your posture is poor and/or the other muscles groups are weak the quads will over work to hold you up putting more stress on your knees.

Worse yet those quads are now primed so when you go to move like squatting down to reach that lower oven you’ll just over use them more…more stress on your knees.

Yes, correcting the posture and strengthening the weak areas to take the demand off the quads and the stress off the knees is the solution.

Until then break up standing tasks with ones that can be done sitting.  And set a timer to go off to remind you that you’ve been standing too long.  Are all the timers in use as those amazing aromas are spreading from the kitchen, then use the one on your phone.

Playing With the Kids or Grandkids

Getting down to the floor can be a tough one.  But the kids keep asking and you don’t want to miss the opportunity, I know.  They are cuter when they are happy around the holidays playing.  Mine are cutest when they are sleeping.  Oh, the precious quiet.

There is a couple ways to succeed getting down.  I’ll cover one strategy.

Sit back into your hips (taking the stress off your knees) as you squat down putting your hands down on the ground.  This creates a bridge between your legs and arms.  Then move your legs to sit on the floor
(Ok it’s the giving season).

Or, have a chair (not on wheels for obvious safety concerns) next to you so you can use your arm/arms to assist you down, and up.

Climbing The Ladder to Decorate

Easy one.

Have the Kids or Grandkids over, sit back in the recliner and watch them do it.  You’re in management now.
