What Can Massage Therapy Do For Me?
Relieve Aches and Pains- Muscle pain can have many causes and sources. For example, muscle pain can be caused by old injuries, poor posture, scar tissue, overuse, or intense exercise. The application of massage techniques can improve the mobility and pliability of the muscles and fascia in the body to relieve tension and tightness.
Relax Muscle Spasms- A build up of tension leads to involuntary muscle contractions, also known as muscle spasms. The application of deep targeted and sustained pressure works to relieve the build up of tension, allowing the targeted muscle tissue to stretch, loosen, and relax.
Promote Faster Healing of Injured Muscular Tissue- Massage therapy works to increase blood and lymph fluid flow, thereby speeding the injury rehabilitation process. Massage therapy also assists in increasing tissue permeability which allows oxygen and other vital nutrients to damaged areas faster. Thus, promoting faster healing of the targeted tissue. It can also compliment other therapies to help improve range of motion and decrease tightness to assist with improving movement patterns, which will also improve your strength faster.

Myofascial Release - When you feel stiffness or pain in your body, it can originate from different tissues in your body. Myofascial pain is different from other types of pain because it occurs in places where your myofascial tissue meets or crosses. Myofascial pain may be difficult to identify because it can radiate from the area and spread. For example, leg pain could originate in the back or even all the up in the neck, and spread throughout the body.
This tissue feels more elastic and movable. Tight myofascial tissue can restrict movement in your muscles and joints. As you move differently to make up for the loss in movement, you can cause additional tightness, pain, or future discomfort without realizing it. This can lead to widespread, unexpected pain and discomfort that may be inconsistent or reoccurring over time.

Medical Massage- Medical massage is outcome-based massage. Primarily the application of a treatment is targeted to address specific problems the patient presents to achieve their desired outcome. For example, if you have a frozen shoulder, tight hamstrings, or difficulty turning your neck or have a crunchy lower back? Medical massage therapists will assess what is going on with your body, both muscularly and fascialy, to provide a session to improve that specific condition.
General Massage- General massage is typically utilized by those people that may be stressed, anxious, or generally tight or sore. This massage session will help you achieve general relaxation by decreasing muscle tension, increasing circulation, and increasing dopamine (the “feel good” chemical in the body). This massage is usually a full body experience. But, general massages can be tailored to your desire (back, neck, shoulder focused, etc.).
Cupping – Cupping can enhance some massage techniques and sessions by using a negative pressure to lift the body tissue up under the cup. This can help release deeper fascial and scar restrictions in the body. Thus, increasing blood and lymph flow in the area to promote healing.
*Hot Stones- This type of massage incorporates heated stones that are placed on certain areas of the body as well as held by the therapist with some massage techniques. The warmth of the stones can accelerate the relaxation of the soft tissues to relieve tension and tightness and alleviate symptoms of muscle spasm.
