Sports Performance Analysis

The Sports Performance Analysis is a hybrid analysis that provides the athlete with both a lower body injury risk analysis and a performance analysis.  It is utilized by individuals looking to guide their training and benchmark their training.

The return to sport assessment is a multipurpose high-speed motion analysis of sport specific movements. The assessment has been utilized by athletes, from recreational to competitive, as a return to sport assessment after lower extremity injury, a sports performance assessment and a sports injury risk assessment.  The assessment uses high-speed video to analyze the individual’s abilities with loading, shock absorption and stabilization during various movements common in sport (jumping/landing, cutting, etc). Each movement is scored for the biomechanical tendencies that may put the athlete at risk for re-injury and/or decreased performance efficiency. The overall score can then be utilized to guide training to reduce injury risk, increase performance, as well as, guide return to sport timelines.   Furthermore, a specialized treadmill equipped with pressure sensors built into the deck is utilized to measure force, time, step and spatial parameters in running.  A high speed motion analysis measuring joint angles during running is performed to break down the individual’s running mechanics.  This analysis takes about two hours.

Treatment after return to sport analysis can be initiated at DSMC through either a Physical Therapy Evaluation (injury related) or Wellness Physical Therapy Evaluation (non-injury related).
