What is physical therapy?

Physical therapists are experts in the body’s Movement System. They excel in pathokinesiology: the factors that adversely affect your ability to move. Ultimately, physical therapy helps people who suffer from aches, pains, stiffness and injury to move more freely with less pain so they can regain and maintain an active and healthy lifestyle. So, they can do the things they love to do with the people they love to do them with.

Is Doylestown Sports Medicine Center only for athletes?

No. Doylestown Sports Medicine Center helps people of all ages including (but not limited to):

  1. People of any age who wish to maintain or achieve better activity, mobility and health.

  2. People who work in fields where physical demand is placed on the body through sitting, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying.

  3. People who are 55 and older who are determined to remain independent.

  4. Active and involved grandparents who wish to keep up with their grandkids.

  5. People who value and are proactive about their health and wellness.

  6. Competitive athletes of all ages who wish to optimize their performance, prevent injury (or re-injury) and ultimately want to be able to enjoy the sport and activities they love.

What does Doylestown Sports Medicine Center treat?

If your problem or concern is one of pain or stiffness in the muscles or joints in your back, hip, knee, foot or ankle, neck, shoulder, elbow, hand, and wrist. It's likely that physical therapy will help greatly. In the event Doylestown Sports Medicine Center is not able to treat you, we are happy to refer you to other medical experts our patients have seen success with.

How long does physical therapy take to feel a difference?

The speed at which issues are eased is dependent upon your age, the severity of your condition, how long your symptoms have persisted, etc.

It is also dependent on how well your physical therapist is in identifying the underlying culprits that led to the victim (your painful area). Furthermore, your progress is determined by how good your physical therapy team is at helping you resolve the underlying issues; be it: strength, flexibility, stability, how you move, posture, etc.

What should I wear to a physical therapy appointment?

To get the most out of your physical therapy experience keep in mind the location of the body part that will be evaluated and treated. By all means, dress within your comfort level.

Example: If you are a female and we are looking at your shoulder, a sports bra allows for therapists to visualize and measure your range of motion with much more confidence. If you’re uncomfortable with a sports bra, a sleeveless, baggy or loose shirt or vest works just as well.

Does Doylestown Sports Medicine Center give things to work on at home?

For a complete program to get you your best desired outcome…yes. Our home programs address not only the victims, but also the culprits. They involve a combination of exercise and learning to be a better mover in life… “Life Is Your Exercise”.

Can I talk to a physical therapist before I start to make sure physical therapy is right for me?

Yes. Doylestown Sports Medicine Center is proud to offer free in-person discovery visits where you can speak with a member of our clinical staff to discuss how your plan of care may be developed.
